Civil-Military Relations (CMR)

The Civil-Military Relations (RCM) dossier deals with documents on the interaction between military and civilians during the political opening process that began in the 1970s. It refers to topics such as the decompression proposed by generals Ernesto Geisel and Golbery do Couto e Silva and other political tensions during the period. 

Presidential elections and successions (EP)

The dossier Elections and presidential successions (EP) deals with presidential successions that occurred during the period of political opening, such as the indirect elections of General João Batista Figueiredo, Tancredo Neves and others. 

Catholic Church (IC)

The Catholic Church (IC) dossier contains documents regarding the actions of the Catholic Church during the period of political openness that began in the 1970s. They deal with Church-State relations; reports of state repression and ecclesiastical movements, among others. 

Human Rights (HR)

The Human Rights (HR) dossier contains documents on allegations of human rights violations already in the context of the political opening that began in the 1970s, as well as analyses on the human rights situation in Brazil.

Intramilitary conflicts (IC)

The Intramilitary Conflicts (CI) dossier deals with the reactions of military officers to the proposal for political openness by Generals Ernesto Geisel and Golbery do Couto e Silva. The documents refer to tensions between military personnel regarding redemocratization, as well as the reactions of officers known as “hardliners.” 

Economic crisis (EC)

The Economic Crisis (EC) dossier deals with the economic crisis that began at the end of the 1970s and intensified in the 1980s, during the government of General João Batista Figueiredo.
