Scope and content
Letter, dated November 20, 1973, from Clarence Boonstra to Stephen Low about the description of the Brazilian government as 'fascist' in an economics book by Paul Samuelson. The document details a call from Mario Simonsen to the Embassy mentioning his discomfort with the book - said to be widely used in Brazilian universities -, which mentioned the Brazilian military junta in the same category as the regimes of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, criticizing the alleged lack of knowledge of Brazilian politics abroad. The letter ends with an attachment of a letter from the publisher Agir, responsible for translating the book into Portuguese, questioning the possibility of changing the passage.
